VIETNAM WAR PRESENTATION CHINESE MOSIN-NAGANT TYPE 53 CARBINE DATED 1960. SERIAL NUMBER Bxxxx. 7.62X54R Russian caliber military carbine with integral folding bayonet. Receiver ring stamped with serial number and dated “1960”. Brass presentation plaque mounted on right side of stock inscribed “BRIGADIER GENERAL FREDERICK KARCH/WITH THE COMPLIMENTS OF/SUB-BRIGADIER GENERAL HOANG-XUAN-LAM/2ND DIV COMMANDER-ARVN/DANANG 2 APRIL 1965”. Excellent condition overall with matching serial numbers and with nearly all the original blue metal finish and all the stock finish. Working order and good bore. Certainly a hand selected superior example of a captured Viet Cong weapon for presentation to United States Marine Brigadier General Frederick J. Karch, Commander of the 9th Expeditionary Brigade - the first regular Marine Infantry Brigade to arrive in Vietnam ( March 1965)-an event highly publicized in the American press at the time including an article in the March 19th, 1965 issue of Life Magazine. A historically significant United States Marine Corps Vietnam War artifact. With provenance by descent to General Karch’s daughter and accompanied by a letter from her attesting to it’s authenticity.
