27528 EXCEPTIONAL ENGLISH PERCUSSION 8 BORE FOWLING GUN BY A. COX OF WINCHESTER CIRCA 1850. ($4500)

EXCEPTIONAL ENGLISH PERCUSSION 8 BORE FOWLING GUN BY A. COX OF WINCHESTER CIRCA 1850. 57 ½” overall with 41 ¼” Damascus raised rib barrel signed “A. COX. WINCHESTER”. Double silver bands and case hardened patent breech with platinum vent. Finely scroll engraved lock signed “A. COX, WINTON”. Scroll engraved steel trigger guard and butt plate. Steel ramrod pipes and rosewood ramrod. Walnut stock with checkered wrist and horn forend cap. Excellent plus and all original with 95% of the Damascus brown barrel finish. Patent breech with original case colors and lock and hammer with much of the original coin finish patinating slightly. Stock with the original finish. Perfect working order and bright, near mint bore. Finest quality and in superb condition. Aaron Cox was a well known maker in Winchester with a shop in the High St. during the 1840’s and moving to Jewry St. in 1850.
